KI

Measuring and Promoting Engagement in Learning Spaces

Understanding and promoting engagement has long been a critical focus for the design of learning environments. It is the core of the classroom experience and foundational to the process of learning and development.

However, the constituent elements of engagement can be somewhat difficult to define and even harder to measure. StudioFYNN was tasked to develop a design focused research methodology that also incorporated detailed data analytics that would quantify how KI classroom installations elevate student engagement and experience. Using KI’s classroom design competition initiative as a foundation for the study, we leveraged our decades of experience in research and design the develop a question structure that identified the constituent elements of engagement. To this we added our data analytics expertise to build an A/B test model that identified a significant increase in student engagement and a positive experience of the classroom environment.

Building upon these conclusions, we designed a final report incorporating our custom designed data visualizations expressing the positive shifts between the old classroom space with original furniture settings and the comparative experience with new KI furniture installations. Employing our art direction expertise, these visualizations were then aligned with photographic documentary of the classroom environments and the specified KI furniture that supported this shift.
